Less Cancer Thanks To The Greeks!
The people of Greece and their Mediterranean diet have been in the
news for the past decade. The diet is hailed as the diet most people
should follow to lose and maintain weight, prevent dementia,
sleep better, keep heart attacks and strokes at bay and stay
cancer-free.
Cancer-free? Yes, new research says that Greeks may have
one of the lowest overall cancer rates and it's due to their
diet. More specifically- the fats in their diet.
That's right- While people in other countries get their fat
from omega-6 sources, the Greek people get their fat from
omega-3 sources.
Not sure which foods contain omega-3 fatty acids? Look below
for the list.
a) Oils-
Avoid the harmful omega-6 fatty acids, like peanut, corn or soybean
and use flaxseed, walnut, olive and avocado oils.
These oils slow blood-clot formation and lower cholesterol levels.
b) Eat More Fish-
The Greeks and the Japanese have other countries beat when it
comes to eating fish, and it's the reason why they enjoy such
robust health. To emulate the Greeks- eat sardines, salmon
and herring. And if price is an issue-canned fish is quite alright.
Just make sure the fish is packed in water, canola or olive oil,
and not omega-6-heavy corn or soybean oil.
c) Buy The Right Beef-
Greeks do eat beef, it's a beef that's grass fed and not the beef that
comes from cattle graze on grain or corn. Beef from grass-fed cattle
boasts 2 to 6 times more omega-3 fatty acids than beef from grain-fed
cattle. Make sure to read the labels when buying beef and it should say-
100% grass-fed or pasture-raised. And if it's out of your price range,
eat more protein-rich eggs, look for those labeled Omega 3 enriched.
d) Eat The Right Snack-
It's not popcorn or pretzels, the Greeks have a few walnuts
with a little honey and yogurt as a snack or dessert.
Meet your requirements for omega-3's with a handful of walnuts a day.
That's it- 4 dietary tips to help you and your loved ones
stay cancer-free. And if you want more tips on how the
Greeks, Italians, Asians and French stay hale and hearty
