Usher in More Good Luck This Year!
Another year is gone and soon it will be 2014.
Last year we brought you some foods that people
from other countries eat to usher in good luck.
If you read the post, then you may remember that people
in Spain and parts of Portugal eat 12 grapes.
Twelve being the number of months in a yr.
Well, we have a few more good luck traditions from around
the World, and none have anything to do with food.
a) Costa Rica-
The people do have some types of beans on the table, but they
also hope for a good year by carrying luggage.
That's right- at midnight Costa Ricans are carrying luggage up
and down the streets. The luggage may represent carrying out
bad things from one's home or they're hoping to travel somewhere.
b) Vienna Austria-
Melted lead. Yes, some in this picturesque city melt lead, then throw
it into cold water and see what shape it'll take.
The shape of the lead is suppose to foretell what will happen in the
New Yr.
c) Singapore-
The people of Singapore have a parade, but that's not all,
the floats traveling down the streets get manhandled.
Not really, the people are allowed to write funny things,
love notes, or messages of hope on the floats for the New Yr.
d) The U.S.
Although it's not a tradition in every city, some cities in the
U.S. bring in the New Year with gunfire. 12 shots to be exact.
Hopefully, the foolish ones who participate use blanks.
Real bullets do have to come down somewhere.
e) France-
If you're thinking wine, you're right, but there's much more.
The French have family dinners, eat a cake with a good luck trinket
tucked inside, sing songs, exchange gifts and then head out to
watch fireworks. And in some parts of France, they celebrate
the New Yr. by crowning a man and woman with the titles of "King
and Queen."
If you have a custom or tradition that you follow, by all means continue it
and make 2014, your healthiest, happiest and most prosperous New Yr.
And if you want the food Rxs to make it a great yr. go back and look at our
2012 post, "Good Luck Foods Rxs From Around The World!"
That's it- Have a great time wherever you are and continue reading
the info we put out, here and at our main site- SupermarketRxs@typepad.com.
Thank You!
Good Luck!
