South America's Food Rx For A Strong Heart!

                        Beans and Heart Health!
It's no secret-people from South American countries love their beans, the way
American love their burgers and fries.
If you want to live a long and healthy life, you should probably go with the beans.
More specifically pinto beans. Why pinto beans?

They're a cholesterol-erasing powerhouse, how so?
The beans are high in soluble fiber, which binds to cholesterol in the intestines,
escorting it out of the body.
Plus, the beans contain a unique type of starch that releases a chemical that prevents new cholesterol from forming.

So, if you want to be heart healthy like your South American counterparts,
add pinto beans to stir-fries, soups and Mexican dishes.
And if calories are a concern- make sure to buy the vegetarian refined pinto beans
in a can or dry pinto beans.

That's It- Your natrual Rx for lowering cholesterol.

Good Luck!

The Aztecs Rxs To Lower Blood Pressure!

A Winter Favorite To Lower Blood Pressure!
The Aztecs-a tribe from the northern part of Mexico is
known for their incredible fighting abilities and stamina.

New research says that their stamina may be due to cocoa.
That's right- the stuff we use today to dunk our cookies or
drink while we're watching T.V. on a cold night
may have been discovered by the Aztecs.

The benefits of cocoa are endless,  one benefit that would
help save lives and money is... lowering blood pressure.
Could you imagine your doctor prescibing hot cocoa
instead of blood pressure meds?  Better yet, don't imagine it-
it'll never happen.

Why is cocoa so effective at lowering blood pressure?
A good quality cocoa can relax and open up arteries,

making blood flow more easily and effeciently.
And with the cold weather here for a few more months,
drinking cocoa can help you reduce your risk of a "Winter
heart attack."

Now, that you're aware of the benefits of cocoa, here are a few tips

to remember: Make sure you have the cocoa as a solo dish and
not with cookies, pie, donuts or scones. Adding high calorie
sweets will only negate the healthful benefits. Also make sure

to buy a good quality cocoa- no boxes of dollar cocoa, you find at
big discount stores.

One brand to try: Nestle Abuelita Instant Chocolate
Drink. It's a mix of choc. and cinnamon, a combo that also may have
originated with the Aztecs.
The price- $4.50!

Good Luck!

The women in particular use a type of healing called-"body brushing!"
What is it? Using a loofah or dry washcloth, they slough off dead skin cells,

which results in a host of healthy benefits-like...
1) More Youthful Skin- the sloughing removes dead skin cells, leaving
you with a more youthful glow.

2) Boost Circulation- Body brushing releases trapped toxins that leave you
feeling sluggish.
3) More Energy and Stronger Immunity-
Boosting immunity is important this time of year, and more energy
is also important with the colder, darker and shorter days.
Again, sloughing off dead skin cells releases trapped toxins.

4) A Faster Metabolism- Need a metabolism boost (and who doesnn't?)
This may explain why a large number of Asian women are able to maintain

their weight. And starting it today, (body brushing) may boost your metabolism,
allowing you to have a piece of pie or some extra turkey, this time next year.

So, are you ready to try body sloughing for a healthy new you?
Well, head to a beauty supply store, or a drugstore and pick
up a loofah or a dry brush. Do this on the weekend (when you have time off)
right before a shower. And if you can't find a dry brush or loofah,
just use a dry washcloth.

Good Luck!

Get Slim Secrets From Around The World Pt. 2!

                          Get Skinny Secrets From Overseas!
As promised, here are a few more secrets from our friends overseas and how they
stay slim.

1) Argentina-
Argentinians love their beef. In fact, they eat up to 45% more pounds of beef per
person than Americans. Yet -they're much less likely to be overweight.
Why? The cattle in this South American country are grass-fed, making the
meat tastier and leaner. Meat from grass-fed cattle contains up to 35% less
fat than the grain-fed, hormone laden beef Americans eat.
Another fact, Asians eat more carbs and maintain their weight and
the Argentinians eat more meat, and maintain their weight.
So, what gives? They eat mostly vegetables with rice and meat entrees.
No, mashed potatoes swimming in gravy, no cups of soda and no sugar-covered
carbs for dessert.
Rx For Americans: Try and eat more beef and poultry, but make sure it's
grass-fed. It may be more expensive, but you'll gain dividends that go beyond
health.
2) Gambia-
Where is it? It's in West Africa and their secret... Peanuts!
Gambians don't just have a few peanuts as snacks, they add them to
sauces, stir-fries and and stews.
Peanuts have the power to hold off hunger for 2 to 3 hours. Plus, they contain
monounsaturated fats and protein.
In fact, they contain more protein than beef, poultry, tuna and eggs.
Another interesting fact: Cancer, heart disease and obesity are almost nonexistent.
Rx For Americans: Add more peanuts to dishes, like stir-fries and stews in place of
meat. Also, keep them on hand and snack on them and not candy and cookies.

A 2 or 3 lb. of peanuts will cost you about $3. And yes, peanut butter also counts,
buy the "natural" peanut butter or make your own-without all of the oil.
3) Denmark-
Danes do a number of things to maintain their slim figures, but one thing they
do is something a lot of Americans question. That something: Eat bread!
Not just any old white bread, but a high quality Rye bread.
It's loaded with fiber (unlike the white bread-we eat in the U.S.)
and fiber imporves the body's ability to use fat as fuel.
And research shows that eating more fiber helps block your digestion
of fat, and if you get at least 18 grams of fiber a day, you'll effortlessly lose
about 10 lbs. in a yr.
Rx For Americans: Look for a good quality rye, pumpernickle or wheat
bread and toss out the white stuff.

Good Luck!
